In the twenty four years Mining experience in Open Cut, but predominately underground , Murray has gained experience with mine ventilation as the sites sole ventilation engineer for 10 years covering two mines, operational development and production, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, control budget estimates and detailed engineering design of ventilation networks for the sites mass mining methods with Newcrest’s Cadia Valley Operations which is the world’s 4th largest gold mine by production. Some detailed tasks assigned to him included ventilation management overall, atmospheric occupational hygiene, underground emergency and refuge chamber management, define mine ventilation design criteria, forward ventilation planning (short, medium and long term), electrical requirement forecasting, develop network and mine models with simulations, materials handling systems heat generation and contaminant studies, assist in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for three expansion projects, establish primary ventilation energy balances, assist in determining secondary ventilation system for expansion projects and development, determine absorbed power for primary ventilation systems and assist in identifying cost saving strategies, author/creator of both sites emergency plans and on call 24/7 for emergencies, assist in preparation of overall project schedule, infrastructure and capital cash flow estimates, and leading qualitative and baseline risk assessments and codes of practice and writing procedures. He is currently a Senior Engineer for BBE Consulting since 2021, based in New South Wales. He has also led ventilation technician teams covering both sites. His work has included design requirements for underground and recently major surface fan installment. This work included relevant ventilation specifications, and design requirements, completing project/construction schedules and interfacing with other construction and engineering teams. Enhanced ventilation experience has been gained in Block Cave and Sub Level Cave methods suited to mass mining. Specific cave operations he was part of were Newcrest’s Cadia Valley Operations Cadia East Mine and Ridgeway Mine which he was part of the team to close and prepare for maintenance.
