Australasian Tunnelling Conference 2025
Times are shown in your local time zone GMT

Pre-conference workshops will be offered on Monday 10 November 2025 at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre. Registrations to the workshops are an additional cost and will open soon.

Join us for this focused one-day workshop exploring the crucial role of geospatial data and technologies throughout the lifecycle of tunnelling and underground infrastructure projects.

Why this workshop?

Geospatial data plays an important role in shaping tunnelling and underground infrastructure projects—yet it’s often misunderstood, siloed, or underused. With context-enriched geospatial information captured through technologies such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, satellite remote sensing, aerial mapping, ground-penetrating radar, hydrographic surveying, and spatial monitoring sensors, the challenge is no longer data collection—it’s integrating it effectively and turning it into meaningful insight.

This workshop is designed to tackle that challenge head-on. We’ll explore how to effectively integrate geospatial data across the entire tunnelling lifecycle—from early planning and design to construction, monitoring, and long-term asset management. Expect real-world examples, lessons learned, and future-focused insights that show how geospatial technologies can support better, smarter decisions below the surface.

What to expect

The day will combine morning lectures from industry leaders and experts, followed by interactive afternoon workshops and panel discussions. Together, these sessions will provide both high-level insight and practical, hands-on experience.

Key topics include:

  • Geospatial Data Across the Tunnel Lifecycle
  • Emerging Technologies in Underground Monitoring
  • Navigating Challenges in Tunneling Geospatial Data
  • The Future of Geospatial Data in Tunneling
  • Applied Case Studies & Lessons Learned

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for users of geospatial data across the tunnelling spectrum—from planners, engineers, and designers to asset managers and decision-makers. It will also appeal to surveyors, data analysts, and technology providers seeking to better engage with end users.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect geospatial innovation with underground outcomes.

Shotcrete is an essential component of ground support in most underground mines and tunnels. Demands for sustainability, safety, and performance have presented new challenges for suppliers, contractors, and specifiers involved with this material. Quality Control is an important part of achieving and demonstrating compliance with these goals. Unfortunately, understanding of the importance and practice of quality control for shotcrete has been problematic in recent years. In response to this reality, the Australian Shotcrete Society and ATS have organised a one-day workshop to be held in association with the ATC 2025 conference, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. This workshop will examine the purpose, value, and practical steps involved in producing meaningful quality control for shotcrete. The workshop will cover a range of topics related to quality control of shotcrete for underground support in Australian mines and tunnel. The format will include five morning lectures with an extended workshop session in the afternoon to allow discussions on development of a QC guideline for Australian industry. Lunch and tea breaks will be included. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Programme

Items covered in the programme will include lectures by specialists in their field shown below, including a talk on legal implications by Arnold Dix. The day will finish off with a workshop on “Meaningful Testing” where audience participation will be encouraged.

  • Basics of quality control for concrete
  • The challenges of quality control for Shotcrete
  • Interpretation of different test results
  • When things go wrong – Legal implications
  • Development of a QC guideline for Australia
  • Workshop: Meaningful testing for Shotcrete
